Pageant Preparations

I've been really busy preparing for my upcoming Jr. Miss California International Pageant by walking in high heels, participating in mock interviews, promoting my platform MaxlinKx and getting some much needed rest.  Pageant weekend is coming up quickly and the event if packed full of fun activities, so I'm going to need endurance to succeed.

My mom has been a huge help with dress alterations and driving me to pageant practice.  I appreciate all of her help and I hope to make her proud.  I cannot forget my dad, he's a trooper too . . . he's going to look so handsome in his tuxedo!

Thank you Mom and Dad.

Love,

Katelyn

Summer Orientation

On August 7, 2010 I traveled with my mother to Southern California to attend the 2011 California International Pageant Orientation.  After a delayed flight, an interesting shuttle ride, we finally arrived at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Downey, California.  I was great to finally meet my fellow Jr. Miss contestants and to learn all about the up coming pageant weekend in September.  Plus, I had a chance to meet the Executive State Director, Eddie Peterson and his amazing staff.

The orientation was full of useful information including interviews, fashion, makeup, awards, the gala dinner, ticket information, rehearsal clothes, official photographer and more.  I'm so excited to be participating in the Jr. Miss California International 2011 pageant.  Wish me luck!

Celebrity USA National Finals

This year's national level pageant for Jr. Miss California International is "Celebrity USA National Finals" where one girl will be named "Grand Celebrity USA"  The pageant is being held at the Red Lion Inn in Sacramento, California.
Claire Wright, Jr. Miss California International 2010 is competing for the title of "Grand Celebrity USA" and I had the opportunity to attend the pageant to show my support for the International Pageant system and to learn from the contestants.  I watch the runway and modeling portion of the competition on Thursday and today I'm attending the awards ceremony.

Visiting royalty (that's me) wear their crown and sashes, so tonight's event should be a lot of fun.  I'm looking forward to meeting the contestants, past title holders and new title holders that will be crowned tonight. If you are interested in attending the admission is $15.00.

4th of July Parade

The morning began quite early with last minute preparations, make up and hair.  Once we arrived at the parade staging area we decorated my mom's car with American Flags and placed my platform's banner (MaxlinKx) on the back of the car.  Excitement was in the air as the many parade entries lined the streets waiting for the parade to begin at 11:00.  Each entry was judged based on the type of entry (individual or group), presentation, music, candy, crowd response, etc.  To our amazement we won first place in the group category.  My Mom and I were grouped with my Dad and friends who rode is red, white and blue UTV's.

While I was waiting for the parade to begin, I noticed some other girls wearing crowns.  I walked over to them and introduced myself.  The girls were very nice and I learned that they were title holders from Susanville and Lassen County. We chatted for a little while, then we wished each other good luck in the parade.

The parade began with the blasting of a loud horn as we entered the parade route.  The streets were lined with thousands of people cheering and waving.  We tossed at least ten pounds of candy to the children and waved to the crowd until it felt like my arm was going to fall asleep.  My Mom and I had a fun filled day and I'm so happy to have been able to participate and promote my platform, MaxlinKx!

Parade Preperation

We've had a change of plans. Our float isn't really a float any more because we had a difficult time arranging the decorations to match the theme. Luckily, when my parents were looking at the float platform (a flatbed trailer) they had an idea.  Why not use the trailer to transport my Dad's three UTV's (one red, one white, and one blue) to the parade instead of using the trailer for a float.  How perfect! Now my family and friends are going to be driving my Dad's three UTVs in the parade with a patriotic theme.

My Mom and I will sadly not be in a UTV, instead we are going to be riding in my Mom's black convertible sports car. I'll be sitting in the back, wearing a purple fun fashion dress, and throwing out candy.  I spent this afternoon tying MaxlinKx and JCH Production brochures to each sucker; I thought this would be a great way to promote MaxlinKx and JCH Productions.

I'll post some pictures soon, I cannot wait for the 4th of July Parade!

Love, Kate

July 4th Parade in Chester, California

I'll be participating in the 4th of July Parade in Chester, California.  The parade begins at 11:00 a.m. and travels down Main Street in Chester. The theme for this year's parade is Lake Almanor-Four Seasons-More Reasons.  My family, friends and I will be building a float representing the many year round activities available at Lake Almanor.   This year's parade is extra special to me because I've been vacationing at Lake Almanor since I was a baby.  It's going to be fun to actually be in the parade!  For more details on the parade please visit the Chester-Lake Almanor Chamber of Commerce http://www.lakealmanorarea.com/

Looking Forward To The Jr. Miss California International Pageant-September 11, 2010

I had my first meeting to talk about the Jr. Miss California International Pageant being held in Southern California on Saturday, September 11, 2010.  I met with JCH Productions to review pageant rules, responsibilities, fundraisers, wardrobe, sponsorships and much more.  My pageant director Jill Humphrey answered all of my questions and made me feel at ease.  Jan Humphrey gave me tips on fun ways to enter, walk across and exit the stage.  Plus Jan showed me many interview suits, fun fashion dresses and evening gowns.  I have so much to learn, but I'm up for the challenge.

I will be attending a Summer Orientation in Downey, California on August 8, 2010.  I cannot wait to meet the other contestants and learn more about our opening number, Gala Dinner and State Pageant.

If anyone is interested in sponsoring me, by purchasing ad space in the Miss California Program, please post a comment and I will contact you.  The ad pages can advertise your business or simply wish me good luck in the Jr. Miss California Pageant :)

Garage Sale to Benefit MaxlinKx-Saturday, June 5, 2010

A week before the garage sale, many of my family and friends dropped off items for the sale, my brother and I cleaned out our closets and my mom delivered two car loads of items to the garage sale location in Rancho Cordova.  Early Saturday morning I started setting up the sale tables and the first customers pulled up into the yard by 7:00 a.m.  The morning began slowly with a misty fog, but when all the fog burned off the sun came out and so did the people. By noon we sold all sorts of items such as: books, clothes, bird cages, bikes, ceramic fairies, dolls, puzzles, dress up clothes, and all sorts of other goodies!! We sold a ton of books-.25 cents a piece or 5 for $1.00!  Over all we made $320.00 to benefit my charity MaxlinKx.  A huge thank you goes out to everyone who donated items:  My Grandma and Grandpa Redmon, Don and Margi Munns, Nancy and Jose Estrada, Julie and Ross Gilroy, Mary and Jess Barnes, Meghan and Jules Napoli, Derek and Sonja Plattor, my brother David and my parents Jon and Teresa Crowley.  Over all I had a TONS OF FUN!!!

Northern Valley & Sacramento International Pageant-May 21, 2010

Wow, I cannot believe I was crowned Jr. Miss Northern Valley International!  My journey began four weeks ago when Jill Humphrey, of JCH Productions, asked if I'd like to participate in a pageant.  Of course, I said, "yes"!  I was nervous and excited because I hadn't thought of entering a pageant, not to mention I needed an interview suit, evening gown and fun fashion dress.  Over the next few weeks, my mother and I found some amazing dresses at Crowns and Gowns in Folsom, California.  Tiffany Tollett of Crowns and Gowns helped me pick out two dresses and had them altered to fit me perfectly.  Thank you Tiffany!

My pageant attire was pressed and ready for a fun filled evening at the Folsom Community Center in Folsom, California.  The day began with the interview portion of the event where I was interviewed by five judges.  The judges asked me a variety of questions relating to my application in addition to other questions about my platform.  Believe it or not, I wasn't nervous about being interviewed.  I enjoy speaking with adults and promoting my platform MaxlinKx

Backstage I had a lot of fun chatting with the other contestants, we helped each other with hair and make up and encouraged one another before walking on stage.  My favorite part of the evening was the fun fashion event where my personality was able to shine.  Finally, around 9:30 p.m. the title holders were announced and I was crowned Jr. Miss Northern Valley International.  In addition to the crown I won an award for the highest interview points and an award for selling the greatest number of ad spaces in the pageant catalog.

I'm looking forward to representing the title, promoting my platform and participating in the Jr. Miss California Pageant in September.  Lastly, I'd like to thank my family, friends and sponsors for making my first pageant a memorable experience that I will treasure for a lifetime.
